Gift ideas-The Best things in life are for free!

Buying gifts for everyone during the festive season can turn out to be quite an expensive affair for all of us. However, gift giving has become such an intrinsic part of the celebrations associated with the festive season that it is almost mandatory to please everyone with the lovely gifts. Even though many criticize the fact that the true spirit of the festival is often lost in the commercialism that the festival promotes, not many can deny the love and happiness that is generated via the exchange of gifts during the festive season. What needs to be discouraged, however, is the fact that many people feel it is a necessity to gift over-the-top expensive and costly gifts to their family and friends and the shopping spree often ends with a hole in their pockets. Rather, we should remember that a gift is just a token of our feelings and the fact that we wish happiness & well being for our near and dear ones and not an exhibit of our spending power.

It is necessary that we inculcate similar feelings in our kids from a very early stage. You can teach your children to make pretty gifts for their friends, cousins and even grown ups at home. Children love to create things on their own and this fruitful activity will not only channelize their energy in a productive manner but also inhibit the growth of materialism in their innocent minds. I have often seen busy parents catering to the exorbitant demands of their children during Christmas only to have the children discard the expensive gift in a few days and demand another one. Your children will be happier if you have sewn new clothes for your daughter’s doll for Christmas or planned a day out with your son with tickets to his favorite game.

There are numerous gift ideas available on the net that you can try out at home and encourage your children to do the same. You can make pretty picture frames, gift boxes, cards, candleholders and numerous other things with the help of easy instructions that are provided on the websites devoted to the idea of making wonderful gifts at home. Many websites categorize the gifts into Gifts for elders, Gifts for him, Gifts for her, Gifts for children and Gifts for everyone. This helps you choose the gifts that you would like to design with your specific needs in mind.  Personalized gifts such as these are not only the perfect carriers of your love and good wishes as they are a labor of love but also save you lots of money in the process.

So, you can stop dreading the beautiful festive season for the huge expenses involved in buying costly gifts and start designing the beautiful gifts for your loved ones. Revel in the festive spirit and create unique personalized gifts for your loved ones to convey your warmest wishes.

The perfect Christmas gift for your child

Christmas, a festival of wish fulfillment, brings along loads of optimism, hope and happiness for the young and the old, alike. It is the flame of hope kindled by this festival that sustains us all our lives, both in times of happiness and of adversity. All of us live in the hope that our wishes will be fulfilled through the powers of a divine being. This hope is engendered in each one of us since childhood, through the mystic power of this wonderful festival when we celebrate the birth of hope and happiness in this world. It is the child in each one of us, who is hopeful of getting his favorite toy with the help of Santa Claus, that helps us withstand all the vicissitudes of life with a smile on our face and a hope in our heart that ‘happy times are right ahead’.

Since this festival has a special significance for children, one should strive to make this occasion an extra special one for them every year. Even though it may sometimes be beyond your means to buy exactly what they want, you can still make them happy in a number of other ways. We all know that most children are thrilled to receive expensive and ostentatious toys. However, they are happier when they feel that their parents have loads of energy and time to spend on them. So, if you spend an entire day with your kids taking them to their favorite places and indulging in all the activities that they have always wanted you to share with them, you will be giving them the best Christmas gift; one that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Remember that your children will remember you when they grow old much in the same manner as you remember your parents. How many of us love our parents more for the expensive toys and clothes that they bought for us? Instead, we cherish the memories of the time that they spent with us, the nights that they would spend at our bedside when we were sick and the patience with which they would put up with our endless demands and pranks. So, do not be disappointed if you cannot buy your kid his favorite toy this festive season. There are umpteen ways in which you can make him happy and gift him memories that will last him a lifetime. Search your memories for the happiest days of your childhood and gift the same memories to your child. This Christmas, gift him a load full of lovely memories and keep adding to this bag of memories every year till it overflows.

Poems for a Mother-A true expression of your love

The best gift that any fond mother hopes to receive on ‘Mother’s Day’ is a display of love and affection from her precious children. And what better way to express these emotions than to put them on paper in words that will convey your utmost love and respect for your mom. I have picked a few of my favorite Mother poems that you can use to convey your feelings to your mother on her birthday, ‘Mother’s Day’ or any other occasion. You really do not need a special occasion to express your love to your mother. So, when you feel your mother needs a gentle reminder of your love for her, send her a card with one of these poems written in your hand and you will brighten her life for days to come. Some of the poems have been written by anonymous authors while others have been penned down by well-known poets. I admire all these poets who have immortalized Mother’s love through their creativity by penning down these beautiful lines.

1.“M” is for the million things she gave me,
“O”
means only that she’s growing old,
“T”
is for the tears she shed to save me,
“H”
is for her heart of purest gold;
“E”
is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
“R”
means right, and right she’ll always be,

Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER,”

A word that means the world to me.
2.If  I could give you diamonds
for each tear you cried for me.
if I could five you sapphires
for each truth you’ve helped me see.
If I could give you rubies
for the heartache that you’ve known
If I could give you pearls
for the wisdom that you’ve shown.
Then you’ll have a treasure, mother,
that would mount up to the skies
That would almost match
the sparkle in your kind and loving eyes.
But I have no pearls, no diamonds,
As I’m sure you’re well aware
So I’ll give you gifts more precious
My devotion, love and care.

3.A mother’s love determines how
We love ourselves and others.
There is no sky we’ll ever see
Not lit by that first love.

Stripped of love, the universe
Would drive us mad with pain;
But we are born into a world
That greets our cries with joy.
How much I owe you for the kiss
That told me who I was!
The greatest gift–a love of life–
Lay laughing in your eyes.
Because of you my world still has
The soft grace of your smile;
And every wind of fortune bears
The scent of your caress.
4. Mommy, I love you
For all that you do.
I’ll kiss you and hug you
‘Cause you love me, too.

You feed me and need me
To teach you to play,
So smile ’cause I love you
On this Mother’s Day.
5. “Happy Mother’s Day” means more
Than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
We never get to say.

It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I honor you.
But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
With pleasure and with love.
6.You are my mother and my friend,
Which is unusual.
Somehow our characters must blend:
Your wisdom and my will.

I turn, and you are there for me;
I speak, you understand.
I feel cared for, but also free;
You lead but don’t command.
I’m fortunate that I was born
To someone just like you;
I love you, not just as my mom,
But for what you are and do.
7. God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine,
And He moulded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me

Gift Baskets ideas for everyone

Do you experience a dearth of ideas when it comes to selecting a gift for your loved ones? Do you visit umpteen gift shops only to be at a loss when it comes to choosing gifts?  Don’t worry; there are many more like you who dread the festive season for the fear of encountering disapproving looks from family members and friends because they never can choose the right gifts ! To provide some assistance to you and to many others, I have compiled a list of gift ideas for different age groups that should prove to be helpful to you in the coming months.
Gift baskets for babies: most people confuse between baby baskets and mother baskets and end up gifting a basket that contains all things for the mother and nothing for the baby. A baby gift basket should ideally contain only baby stuff such as baby soaps, baby wash, nappy sets, milk bottles, rattles, pacifiers, diapers, a pretty baby blanket and a cuddly toy.
Gift Baskets for Children: toys are often the best choice and you can add cartoon stationary items such as erasers, pencils, sharpeners and scales. You can also add a game or even a fairytale book.
Gift Baskets for adolescents: a mix of cosmetics, perfumes, deodorants, imitation jewelry, hair stickers, glitters, fancy stationary items and fancy pouches work wonders for a young girl and as for a young boy, you can put together a basket containing gourmet items such as crackers and Beef stix, favorite CD and accessories for the sport that he plays.
Gift baskets for a man/woman: You can be adventurous with these gift baskets, especially if they are meant for someone who is close to you. Pamper him/ her with flowers, scented bubble baths, body sprays, deodorants, a bottle of wine, scented candles for a romantic dinner or even sexy inner clothing, if you wish to send across an intimate message.
Gift baskets for the elderly: A perfect combination includes gourmet items and books that they can read in their leisure time. Make sure that you include health items such as juices, cans of soups, muffins, fresh fruit, homemade bread and jams, flavored tea and such items. However, do add a bag of chips, crackers and snack to spice it up.
Gift baskets are truly the most special way of expressing your emotions to your near and dear ones. It shows that you have made a special effort to look around for their favorite things to create a special gift for them. You can create such wonderful gift baskets with a little bit of creativity and oodles of enterprise that everyone, including you yourself, will be truly impressed with your efforts.

A basket filled with love and much more!

I was recently invited to the anniversary celebrations of a great friend. Instead of investing in a single gift item, I picked up a number of things that I was sure she would like and put them together in a basket and wrapped the basket in colorful ribbons. The gift was very well received and my friend couldn’t help raving about my wonderful gift for a long time. That set me thinking as to why should one buy a single gift item that may actually cost more, than a number of small and less expensive gift items picked up from various places and put together to make a lovely gift basket. All of us pick up small items during sale time that are otherwise available at much higher prices, such as deodorants, bath gels, clothes, gourmet items, votive candles and so much more. With the right dose of innovative thinking and creativity, a pretty basket can be assembled with the right mix of these articles that is sure to make the recipient truly glad.
Once you get into the habit of assembling gift baskets as gifts for your friends and family, you will start enjoying the process. You can employ all your creative faculties into assembling unique gift baskets for them. You can coordinate colors of the various gifts items that you put in the basket or even design a ‘theme’ basket. For instance a gift basket with a theme related to candles could include scented votive candles, crystal votive holder and a few gourmet snacks to enjoy as a candlelight dinner. You can also put tags on the gift baskets with creative titles such as ‘ candles for the illumination of your love’ or anything else that suits the occasion or the theme of the basket.
You will eventually realize that the entire exercise of putting together gift baskets for your family and friends is not only less expensive than picking single item gifts for them but also immensely enjoyable.  Keep your eyes open during sale item for gift items that can be included in your gift baskets. Keep adding to your collection throughout the year so that it is easier for you to mix and match these gift items when you have to assemble gift baskets during the festive season. Gift baskets are so much fun not only for the recipient as he/she gets a number of gifts in a ‘single’ gift but also for the person who assembles them with love, affection and loads of creativity.

Father’s Day Gifts-To Dad, with Love!

Fathers are, oh , so important. They provide us with our first experience of a bruised ego and also of our need to prove our worth to someone. Almost all of us remember our childhood days with mixed emotions. The first step into adolescence is often accompanied with frequent ego tussles with our parents and especially with our fathers. We fight and argue to prove our point to the man who brought us into this world and held our little hands to help our take our first step into this world. As we look back with fondness, love and a little resentment at our childhood days, we cannot help but realize that we can never repay the love and the worldly experience that our parents have imbued us with.

The celebration of ‘Father’s day’ is a celebration of fatherhood, a celebration of the relationship between a child and a father. It is the occasion to acknowledge your gratitude not only to your dad but to anyone who has acted like your father by guiding you and providing you with invaluable wisdom. Even though nothing is more powerful than words in the expression of our true emotions, a token of our love to our fathers on this special day is truly a reflection of our genuine emotions. Even though your father, unlike your mother, is most unlikely to break into raptures or tears of joy on receiving a gift from you, be sure that he appreciates receiving a gift from you as much as your mother. Your father, like any man, would not like to exhibit his feelings.

As children, we are well aware of the preferences of our parents. Hence, it is not tough to pick a gift for your dad on ‘Father’s Day’. You could pick a gift related to his interests such as anything related to the sport he likes to play or the hobby that he indulges in now and then. Depending on his interests, it could be a book, fishing equipment, gardening equipment or a golf bag. If you would rather give him an ostentatious item, then an expensive watch, designer wear, expensive sun glasses, a Mont Blanc or an exclusive men’s perfume would prove to be the ideal gift choices.

Gourmet gift baskets are often a hit with dads as they love to indulge in sumptuous food items. Fill up the basket with his favorite goodies and watch him sneak out of the room again and again to take a bite out of the gourmet basket filled with goodies. You can also make an effort to find out if he actually needs something for his practical use and buy him the same.  Comfortable pair of shoes to replace his old ones, a new pair of vision glasses or a nice travel bag to replace his shabby old one are some of the utility gifts that will surely please your dad.

Beware of buying anything for your ‘old man’ that makes him feel ‘old’. Instead, give him something that reminds him of his younger days, fills him with nostalgia and transports him back into the times when you were a toddler and needed to hold his finger to feel secure.

Christmas Gifts-the eternal message of love

Festive days are here again. Smiling, eager faces and the fragrant nip in the air are the precursors of the festivities ahead. Very soon, all of us will be worrying about the gifts that we have to buy for our loved ones. Leaving aside the worries of expenditure, all of us look forward to buying Christmas gifts for our loved ones to bring a vibrant smile on their glowing faces. It is indeed a pleasure to watch the young ones tear away the wrapping papers hurriedly in the hope of finding exactly what was on their wish list. The elders are no less enthusiastic about their Christmas gifts. After all, everyone wishes to be pampered by their loved ones and festivals, especially Christmas, are the apt occasions when we can truly bring a smile on the faces of the people who make our lives worth living.

It is easier to buy gifts for our loved ones, as we are aware of their likings and needs. Also, people who are close to us are expressive of their desires and therefore, it is easier to choose gifts for them. The problem arises when we have to pick gifts for acquaintances. In such cases, the net proves to be a boon. There is such a wide variety of gifts and gift ideas available on the net that nobody can claim to suffer from a dearth of gift ideas. A number of sites have different categories of gifts and this really helps one in choosing a gift. Most of us have a price range in mind when we wish to buy a gift and if we are given a wide choice in the kinds of gifts that we can buy within that range, it makes our task easier.

I will not make any recommendations for Christmas gifts because I believe that unlike birthday or anniversary gifts, Christmas gifts cannot be bought with someone else’s recommendation. You know best what is desired most by your mom, sister,husband, wife and children. Also, even though the grown ups have ‘outgrown’ the myth of the ‘Santa Claus’ getting you your Christmas gifts, all of us look forward to a wish fulfillment through our Christmas gifts. Since you get a chance to act as Santa Claus only once in a year, you should make the most of this occasion. You will reaffirm your children’s faith in the beautiful things in life by gifting them what they truly want. You will infuse their innocent hearts with the hope that God often gives us what we want and all that we have to do is to pray hard for it. To all the eternal optimists who believe in the message that Christmas brings to us, I wish a merry Christmas.

Men’s Gifts-just give them what they love!

Almost everyone finds it tougher to choose gifts for men than for women. It is often easier to predict the choice of a woman than that of a man. I am sure that a lot of women out there will love to dispute the abovesaid statement about the predictability of women, but I am positive that most of these women themselves find it tough to choose a gift for their own husbands. Let’s just say, on the reverse, that men are, oh so, unpredictable. So, with an unpredictable man occupying a very important position in your life, you have to really hunt the markets for an appropriate gift for him on every occasion that demands the need for a gift.

It is not really so tough to pick a gift for a man if you care to give importance to the mindset of a man. Men are much more practical than women, So, anything that works wonders for a sensitive, emotional women such as flowers, candies and love notes may not hold much importance for a woman (this is not a rule, and exceptions are a plenty). Men love to receive gifts that they can put to practical use. If the man in your life is a sports enthusiast then he will love to receive a gift that shows your appreciation of his love for the sports, no matter how many hours you have spent grumbling about the time that he ‘wastes’ on playing or watching that ‘stupid’ game. Men, just like women, love to be pampered. The difference lies only in the nature of the gifts that make them feel pampered.

It is amazing how little gifts such as a subscription to a favorite sports magazine or a book he has been looking for a long time can really make a man happy. Men are not so much concerned about the value of the gift. Make him feel important and attach special significance to the little things that are important to him. Given below are some of the gift ideas that are sure to put a smile on a man’s face.

Subscription to a favorite sports magazine

Accessories for the sport that he plays

Items related to his hobby such as gardening

Gift certificate to his favorite restaurant

A book on his favorite subject

And of course the importance of clothes, perfumes or an expensive watch as a gift cannot be undermined. The only difference is that while an expensive piece of jewelry is sure to make any woman happy, it may not be possible to please every man with an expensive gift. However, even if you have to think hard to pick an appropriate gift for the man in your life, it will be worth the effort if you can make him really happy.

Celebrate the true spirit of gift-giving!

When my son turned three, he started to understand the eminence of gifts-of course, he had a very selfish approach to it-he only wanted them for himself! As I watched him clamor for gifts on every occasion and being disappointed on occasions when he could not get what he wanted, I began to feel that, somewhere along the line, the whole tradition of gift giving has transformed itself into a viciously selfish tradition. Unfortunately, this selfish behavior is not restricted to children. It has permeated the behavior of the grown ups who are disappointed if the people they give gifts to do not reciprocate the gesture by giving them gifts of the same value. They give because they expect.

Most of us have had the pleasure of reading that beautiful short story titled’ The Gift of the Magi’. As a teenager, I had tears in my eyes after I finished reading the story that tells of the sacrifices of a young couple who sell off their most precious treasures in order to buy a gift for each other. In the end, the sacrifices are wasted in the material sense, but their bond of love is stamped with a seal of everlasting love.  Gift giving, nowadays, is not about making sacrifices anymore. It is about flaunting your money power and buying people’s appreciation and love in exchange for the expensive gifts that we give them. You may feel that I sound a little too harsh. I may be disillusioned with what the tradition of gift giving has transformed into but, like an eternal optimist, I believe that we have the power to change it all. All of us can teach our children the true essence of gift giving and the sentiments that are associated with it. When you see your children sharing their favorite toys with their friends, seize the moment to appreciate them and applaud them for their generosity and companionship. Teach them the value of sacrificing the things that we love for the good of others. Teach them to give and not to expect.  The tradition of gift giving is based on selfless love and generosity. We give to others because we love them and we can part with the things we love to bring happiness to others. So, this season, when you buy a gift for your loved ones, give them something that you would like for yourself but would rather give it to them , because their happiness is more important to you than your own. Let’s all celebrate the tradition of gift giving in the most selfless of spirits!

A reciprocation of love to someone who gave you ‘life’-'Mother’s Day gifts’

Till you become a parent yourself, it is tough to ascertain the wonderful pleasures and pains of parenthood. And when you finally experience the pleasure of being a mother or a father, it becomes easier to appreciate the sacrifices that our parents have made in rearing us up. Even though it is impossible to repay the gift of  ‘life’ that our mothers have given us, we can show our love and appreciation to our mothers by making them feel pampered on ‘Mother’s Day’

The best gifts are the ones that are personalized because they reflect feelings that come straight from the heart and therefore, they touch the right chord in the recipient’s heart. As far as mothers are concerned, the price of the gift is a factor you need to be least worried about. Mothers are the most selfless creatures in this world as far as their children are concerned and no mother is materialistic enough to gauge the price of a gift brought to her by her child. What you should rather strive to achieve is to gift her something that makes her feel nostalgic of the lovely times spent with you when you were a kid or anything that makes her feel that you value her feelings and sentiments. Flowers are, and remain, one of the most favorite gifts for ‘Mother’s Day’. As a gift, flowers can never go wrong. They convey much more than any gift can and the sight of lovely, blooming flowers is sure to enthrall anyone. Another lovely ‘Mother’s Day’ gift that I personally recommend is a set of lovely picture frames (you may select the ones you like from a wide range available in the market) with pictures of you and your mother inserted inside. If you wish to pamper your mother, then a set of exotic spa products is a perfect gift to rejuvenate her senses.  A gift of jewelry is a top favorite gift for woman, and is sure to be the same with your mother. A string of elegant pearls is an ideal jewelry gift for a mother. There are so many different varieties of pearls available in the market that you will surely find something that suits your mother’s taste and your budget. An exclusive perfume or a designer handbag can also be considered if you are looking for something unique to gift to your mother. Keep your mother’s unique style and personality in mind when you pick a gift for her and view the gift with her eyes, rather than your own.    There are many other different ways of saying ‘I love you’ to your mother on ‘Mother’s Day’. You have to choose the one that you are sure will make your mother happy. I believe that most mothers, like me, are happiest on ‘Mother’s Day’ for the simple fact that their children have cared to remember them on this special day. A gift for your mother, therefore, is like the icing on the cake.
