Vintage Jewelry- Absolutely Divine!

Fond of vintage items! You don’t have to depend entirely on your ancestors to acquire a few of these heirlooms. Heirloom quality jewelry from the Victorian, Edwardian, art deco and other periods is now readily available. When you wish to gift a rare piece of jewelry to your beloved, choose a unique vintage item that she will preserve for the rest of her life. Antique jewelry, a term applied to jewelry over a hundred years old, is now a favorite with the prospective brides, too. With everything that is old now coming back into fashion, most brides walking down the aisle are adorning vintage jewelry with pride.

Among the jewelry pieces that you can pick up are antique engagement rings, studded necklaces, bracelets, brooches, crosses, pendants, lockets and other extraordinary pieces of timeless art and beauty.

These antique jewelry pieces come to you through antique jewelry auctions, fairs and sales which are frequented by the jewelers to bring you pieces of extraordinary charm and elegance. Some of the jewelers also specify the age of the antique jewelry on display. For instance, some may claim to keep pieces from 1900 to 1950’s (Edwardian, Art Deco and Retro jewelry) and some may have heirloom pieces that are at least two centuries old! (Late Georgian or Victorian jewelry) Shopping for antique jewelry has an added advantage, it acquaints you to the history and culture of the era to which it belongs. You would be interested to know how the fashion of wearing delicate dresses in the Georgian era favored the use of small, light jewelry. Pendants with miniature paintings of loved ones in delicate pendants were also prevalent in the late Georgian era. In a similar way, jewelry belonging to each era is a reflection of the changing fashions. So, with every piece of antique jewelry, you also buy memories of a long lost era.

Gift ideas-The Best things in life are for free!

Buying gifts for everyone during the festive season can turn out to be quite an expensive affair for all of us. However, gift giving has become such an intrinsic part of the celebrations associated with the festive season that it is almost mandatory to please everyone with the lovely gifts. Even though many criticize the fact that the true spirit of the festival is often lost in the commercialism that the festival promotes, not many can deny the love and happiness that is generated via the exchange of gifts during the festive season. What needs to be discouraged, however, is the fact that many people feel it is a necessity to gift over-the-top expensive and costly gifts to their family and friends and the shopping spree often ends with a hole in their pockets. Rather, we should remember that a gift is just a token of our feelings and the fact that we wish happiness & well being for our near and dear ones and not an exhibit of our spending power.

It is necessary that we inculcate similar feelings in our kids from a very early stage. You can teach your children to make pretty gifts for their friends, cousins and even grown ups at home. Children love to create things on their own and this fruitful activity will not only channelize their energy in a productive manner but also inhibit the growth of materialism in their innocent minds. I have often seen busy parents catering to the exorbitant demands of their children during Christmas only to have the children discard the expensive gift in a few days and demand another one. Your children will be happier if you have sewn new clothes for your daughter’s doll for Christmas or planned a day out with your son with tickets to his favorite game.

There are numerous gift ideas available on the net that you can try out at home and encourage your children to do the same. You can make pretty picture frames, gift boxes, cards, candleholders and numerous other things with the help of easy instructions that are provided on the websites devoted to the idea of making wonderful gifts at home. Many websites categorize the gifts into Gifts for elders, Gifts for him, Gifts for her, Gifts for children and Gifts for everyone. This helps you choose the gifts that you would like to design with your specific needs in mind.  Personalized gifts such as these are not only the perfect carriers of your love and good wishes as they are a labor of love but also save you lots of money in the process.

So, you can stop dreading the beautiful festive season for the huge expenses involved in buying costly gifts and start designing the beautiful gifts for your loved ones. Revel in the festive spirit and create unique personalized gifts for your loved ones to convey your warmest wishes.

Unique Gifts

All of us have many relationships in our life that we value and hold dear. Hence, we also have many occasions to celebrate the importance of these relationships in our life. For instance, if you are in love, you would love to celebrate the birthday of your beloved. These celebrations are a routine part of our life, especially pertaining to people who are an inextricable part of our lives such as a wife, husband, children, parents and siblings. With celebration comes the big question? What should you gift to the person who is so important to you? It is obviously not a good idea to be repetitive in your gift ideas year after year. The flavor of a relationship remains if you treat every occasion pertaining to its significance as a very special day.

Our gifts are a reflection of either our uninterested attitude or the fact that we wish to treat the occasion as an opportunity to make someone really happy. We all know that not every gift makes the recipient happy. Even though I will not undermine the fact that the cost and the exclusivity of a gift are important parameters that decide whether a gift is a success or a failure, their presence does not always guarantee success. Also, not all of us can afford to give our loved ones expensive gifts on every occasion. On the other hand, I believe that one can make his/her loved ones really happy by presenting them with ‘unique’ gifts that are reflective of the love and respect that one has for the relationship.

When I mention the word ‘unique’, I do not intend to mean that one should look for gifts that are different from the wide array of gifts available in the market. A unique gift is the one that reflects the peculiar tastes of an individual. When choosing a gift, recollect the special likes of the person you are buying the gift for. Decide what you would like her/him to feel: thrill, love, happiness, pride or plain joy. In my personal opinion, gifts that touch the heart are the ones that we treasure for a long time. A simple photo frame for your mom that has a picture of you and your mom when you were a little child will bring her more happiness than an expensive watch. Similarly, gifts that remind the recipient of the personal bond that you share with them will always be cherished more than other gifts.

Sometimes, a bouquet of fresh red roses conveys much more than an expensive string of pearls. Always include a handwritten note with your gifts. Though none of us can match the beauty of a Shakespearian sonnet, we can definitely jot down a few lines in the praise of someone we love. A special thanks to your parents, a reminiscence of the lovely time you have spent with your siblings or recognition of the anchor that a friendship has provided you are not merely words. They are the most ‘unique’ gifts that only you have the power to present your loved ones with.
